Healthy Walks

The project engages community members in physical activity and offers a local, easy access, low-cost opportunity for people to be more active. The walks also offer the opportunity to meet like-minded people and overcome social isolation.

More about Healthy Walks

Portsmouth Healthy Walks have 20 walks led by trained volunteer walk leaders. These walks are a mixture of city and country walks and are a great way to improve fitness as well as make new friends.

Please wear suitable footwear, comfortable clothing and bring along a drink. Many walks are wheelchair and buggy friendly.

These walks are free and all are welcome. At the end of the walks there is an opportunity to have tea/coffee – just bring along some cash for a cuppa.

How do I join in?

To join in you can just turn up at one of the walks.

New walkers should arrive ten minutes before the start of a walk to complete a simple health questionnaire.

The benefits of Healthy Walks

Walking is simple, free, and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier.

Walking briskly can help you build stamina, burn excess calories and make your heart healthier.

Some of the outcomes that our Healthy Walks participants have experienced are:

  • 96% of walk participants improved their social life.
  • 64% improved their physical activity levels.
  • 88% improved existing health conditions.
  • 58% improved their confidence.
  • 66% felt that their lives had improved since joining Healthy Walks.
