Healthy Walks
The project engages community members in physical activity and offers a local, easy access, low-cost opportunity for people to be more active. The walks also offer the opportunity to meet like-minded people and overcome social isolation.
Hear from people who have taken part
“Not only the physical exercise of the walks has improved my health but the social interaction with the other walkers and leaders is excellent.”
“I have had several problems with my back, so sitting down makes it worse. I like to be up and on my feet and moving around all day and it’s great company, meeting new people.”
“I’ve made new friends and taken part in additional activities as a result [of the walks]. I look forward to walks with the group very much as part of my week. We have conversations about all sorts and many laughs. I’d miss it if I couldn’t go.”
“I have lots more confidence, enjoy meeting new people, in general able to deal much better in all aspects of my life.”
“I have been a carer for many years. After three bereavements I found I had nothing to occupy my time. I tried a friendship group, but it was not for me.
After joining the Healthy Walks, I enjoy the exercise and talking to the other walkers. It gives me a chance to meet other people.
When I am not walking I am totally alone, I find it difficult to make friends, so walking helps me to overcome some of my reticence.”
