Being a Shared Lives carer: Online information event

Could you be a Shared Lives carer? Come along to an online information event in January to find out more.

Shared Lives carers share their homes with adults who need a bit of extra support to live fulfilled and independent lives.

Carers can agree to offer long-term arrangements, short breaks or day support, and they can receive between £250-£400 a week.

Shirley and Ian have been Shared Lives carers for 20 years. Shirley says:

“I was previously in quite a stressful job and it’s really nice I can do this from home. We’ve met some lovely people over the years.

“Everyone has their own space in the house to be alone when they want to, but we like spending time together too – and always make time to celebrate birthdays and other occasions!”

“If you have just heard about Shared Lives, definitely investigate it – people don’t realise how good it can be. You’re doing something to help people, and it’s really rewarding to see what a difference you can make to people’s lives.”

Do you have a spare room and enjoy supporting others? You could be a Shared Lives carer too.

If you’d like to find out more, why not visit our website, contact the team at shared.lives@portsmouthcc.gov.uk, or come along to one of our upcoming online information events, where you’ll hear more and have the opportunity to ask questions.

We have two events scheduled for January, you can book for either. Each event will include a presentation from our Shared Lives team. You can ask questions in the chat bar to be answered or email your questions to the team in advance at shared.lives@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
