Award nomination for Health and Care Portsmouth communications team

The Health and Care Portsmouth communications, marketing and engagement team has been shortlisted for a national NHS award for their collaborative work across organisations.

The NHS Communicate ‘Working in Partnership’ award recognises NHS communications teams who have successfully worked in partnership with other organisations such as local authorities and the voluntary sector, to deliver a successful communications and engagement project or campaign.

In Portsmouth, this is epitomised through an integrated communications, marketing and engagement team that works across the NHS and Portsmouth City Council, as well as incorporating communications leads from other NHS providers and the voluntary sector.

Jo York, Managing Director of Health and Care Portsmouth, said: “Partnership working is at the heart of our programme; bringing together six organisations who work together to ensure that people in Portsmouth experience better care, access seamless services, and receive the support they need.

“We couldn’t do this without our communications, marketing and engagement team – made up of representatives from the six partner organisations – who expertly support the delivery of our programme of work. Being shortlisted for this national award is a testament to their continued dedication and hard work, and I’d like to be the first to congratulate them on such an achievement.”

The team for Health and Care Portsmouth has a core team of seven communications, marketing and engagement officers working across the NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board and Portsmouth City Council. It is also supported by communications leads for Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, Solent NHS Trust, Portsmouth Primary Care Alliance, and HIVE Portsmouth. They meet regularly to share updates, plan and work collaboratively, and their aims are to:

  • Amplify coverage of partner activity and collaborative work
  • Collaborate by working together on projects and city-wide campaigns
  • Engage with the people of Portsmouth to co-design and co-produce campaigns and services

Over the last 12 months, work delivered by the team includes promotion of the COVID-19 vaccination programme, campaigns to promote urgent treatment centres, recruit more home care workers, raise awareness of expert teams within GP practices, how to access mental health services, engagement with residents at local events and redevelopment of the Health and Care Portsmouth website.

The team works to achieve the vision of Health and Care Portsmouth – to support people to live healthy, safe and independent lives by developing and offering services that are joined up and provided in the right place, at the right time.

They will find out if they’ve won the award at the NHS Communicate Awards on Thursday 15 September.
